Why I recommend staying in Hamamatsucho in Tokyo

Finding a hotel in Tokyo can be a challenging task for many travelers. Tokyo is a massive and densely populated city, with a variety of neighborhoods that offer different experiences. As a result, travelers may struggle to navigate the complex hotel options and their respective locations, making it difficult to find the right fit for their budget, preferences, and desired location. Furthermore, the high demand for hotels in Tokyo means that prices can be steep, particularly during peak travel seasons. With so many factors to consider, it’s no wonder that many people find the process of finding a suitable hotel in Tokyo to be a struggle but good news is that there is the area in Tokyo that checks all marks.

Hamamatsucho is a vibrant neighborhood located in Minato ward, Tokyo, Japan. There are several reasons why you may want to consider staying in Hamamatsucho:

  • Convenient Location: Hamamatsucho is located in the heart of Tokyo and is well-connected to the rest of the city. It has its own train station that provides direct access to popular areas such as Shinjuku, Shibuya, Asakusa, Tokyo Skytree, Tsukiji, Akihabara, Odaiba, Shinagawa station and Tokyo Station.
  • Direct Access to both Narita and Haneda airports: From Haneda aiport, both Tokyo monorail and Keikyu (continues to run on Toei Asakusa line subway tracks) stop at Hamamatsucho and nearby Daimon stations. From Nariata airport, Keisei trains (continues to run on Toei Asakusa line subway tracks) serves Daimon station without needing to change trains.
  • Cultural Attractions: Hamamatsucho is home to several cultural attractions, such as the Zojoji Temple and Tokyo Tower. The Zojoji Temple is a popular Buddhist temple that dates back to the 14th century, and Tokyo Tower is a well-known landmark that offers stunning views of the city.
  • Dining and Nightlife: Hamamatsucho offers a diverse range of dining options, from local Japanese cuisine to international restaurants. The area also has a vibrant nightlife scene, with plenty of bars and clubs to choose from.
  • Cheaper Accommodation options: In general, Hamamatsucho is considered to be a more affordable area to stay in Tokyo compared to Shibuya or Shinjuku. Hamamatsucho has a range of accommodation options to suit different budgets and preferences. The best hotel (Mesm Tokyo) I have stayed in Tokyo is located in the Hamamatsucho area.
  • Convenient for Island Hopping and Tokyo Bay Cruise: Takeshiba Ferry Terminal is a ferry port located Hamamatsucho station. From Takeshiba Ferry Terminal, there are several ferry services that depart to the Izu Islands and Ogasawara islands. These islands known for fishing, eco tourism, camellia oil and volcano. Tokai Kisen serves the Izu islands and Ogasawara Kisen serves the Ogasawara islands. Tokyo Bay Cruise and Tokyo Cruise depart from Hinode pier, which is not far from Hamamatsucho.

Overall, Hamamatsucho is a great place to stay in Tokyo, with its convenient location, cultural attractions, dining and nightlife, and accommodation options. Whether you are a tourist or a long-term visitor, Hamamatsucho is definitely worth considering.
